Mechanism

The mechanism of action of seramectin is the same as that of other abamectin drugs. On the one hand, it can act as a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) agonist to trigger the release of presynaptic GABA, which in turn causes the permeability of the membrane to Cl¯ 
On the other hand, the drug can open the chloride channel controlled by glutamate, increase the permeability of Cl¯ and cause hyperpolarization of the membrane potential, thereby blocking the conduction of nerve signals, causing rapid and lethal parasites.

Because flukes and tapeworms do not have Cl¯ channels controlled by GABA neurotransmitters and glutamate, these drugs have no repellent effect on them.
